End of life suggests an analysis into how the product is currently disposed of after use and how long the product is currently used for by the patient.

The role of designers and product developers involves: Waste avoidance, source reduction, water conservation and energy efficiency within the design stage.

It was mentioned that we should think about real human behaviour with regards to the market that we are working in as to the human reliability for recycling and proper disposing of the product.

Product UseEdit

Seretide contains two medicines, salmeterol and fluticasone propionate:

  • Salmeterol is a long-acting bronchodilator. Bronchodilators help the airways in the lungs to stay open. This makes it easier for air to get in and out. The effects last for at least 12 hours.
  • Fluticasone propionate is a corticosteroid which reduces swelling and irritation in the lungs.

The doctor has prescribed this medicine to help prevent breathing problems such as:

  • Asthma
  • Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Seretide Accuhaler, at a dose of 50/500 micrograms, reduces the number of flare ups of COPD symptoms.

You must use Seretide every day as directed by your doctor. This will make sure that it works properly in controlling your asthma or COPD.

It can be seen from this that the use of the drug and the accuhaler depends on the patients needs however for normal use the accuhaler is used on average twice a day and each drug pack contains 60 blisters. An estimated use of 1month could be assumed.

Empty InhalerEdit

There is a counter on top of the Accuhaler which tells you how many doses are left. It counts down to 0. The numbers 5 to 0 will appear in red to warn you when there are only a few doses left. Once the counter shows 0, your inhaler is empty.

Storage and DisposalEdit

Store Advair Diskus at room temperature, between 68 and 77 degrees F (20 and 25 degrees C), in a dry place. Store away from direct heat and sunlight, moisture, and light. The inhalation device is not reusable and should be discarded 1 month after removal from the moisture-protective foil overwrap pouch or after all blisters have been used, whichever comes first.
